We,as a nation made an initiative , in terms of Meera Sanyal of ABN AMRO, E Sarath Babu of IIM -A , Dr Mallika Sarabhai , Ranjan Kumar of IIM -L and many other fighting the elections , though losing but we have made a good start and we need to encourage such good guys to come to the main stream. These guys are educated , learned and more importantly know what they are talking .
Not like Mulayam Singh, a former wrestler and now a figure on the national political scene, talking of removing English and Computers from the students curriculum in UP. Amma Jayalalitha , has been resting for the last 4 months after losing elections and she makes her presence felt by absenting herself from the proceedings of the Tamilnadu House . Is this an effective opposition? What did the Chautala's do in the last five years to be called an effective opposition ? After a defeat, all the politaical parties go on a honey moon and suddenly resurface when the elections are announced. The Akalis came to power and announced major projects like a Thermal plant, Express ways , Ludhiana Metro, Special economic zones, , International airport and two years done the line most of the projects are either delayed or shelved. A sane voice that of Manpreet is being throttled.
We can keep our eyes closed and ignore issues which need immediate attention , like electricity, Health , education and feel secured ( by closing the eyes)as if the problems do not exist .
I fairly remember, A state Political party often lamblasting PM Manmohan Singh of not doing anything for the state and once the PM was cornered by a journalist to reply to the charge made by the CM of the state. The PM softly, replied , " Mr Chief Minister has met me 4 times and on all four occasions , he had come with personal problems and not anything to do with the state." Isn't it sad?
I am not advocating for Congress either. I am talking about our leaders in General. Majority of them are here to fill their pockets and are not concerned with the welfare of the state and its people. We must think and make sure we push ourselves and demand better governance and accountability.
Our leaders , if questioned , where will the water and Electricity come some 15 years later , I am sure will have no answer. It is pure adhocism.Today, smaller states like Turkey and Pakistan are building more Dams than India for securing the foodgrain production and making sure that the water is availble in plenty for the generations to come. Isn't it that we start asking all these guys these questions on their vision about our future? Our politicians have become agents and Property dealers having no visiion and restricting themselves to enriching their land bank.It is saddening that these 10th or mostly the 12 th grade pass/ fail politicians deciding our and our children's destiny.
Can we save Punjab?

Let us wake up, before it is too late.
